If you want to see the true worth of an F1 driver, put him on a wet track and see how he performs. For far too long in the sport, this has often been used as one of the barometers to judge how good or bad a driver can be.

In the yesteryears, this used to be the hallmark of a brilliant talent as well. Drivers like Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher made their names in the sport by performing miracles on a wet track.

These days, the ground effect cars in general have lessened the impact that skill makes on performance in the wet a bit. You do need an aerodynamically and mechanically balanced car that can generate the temperatures quickly to perform well in the wet weather.

With that being said, an F1 car still continues to be a challenge in those conditions, and the usual suspects often shine. In the 2025 season, who were the top 5 drivers that excelled in those conditions? Let's take a look.

#5 Alex Albon (Williams F1)

At #5 we have Alex Albon. The Thai driver kicked things off brilliantly with the first race in Australia, where he got a strong haul of points for Williams. The conditions were quite tricky, and that's exactly where he made sure he kept the car on track and brought home the points.

He did something similar in Silverstone as well when it came to tricky conditions, and it was all about making the right calls and maneuvering your way through the field. The crash in Las Vegas qualifying was not fun for sure, and that does dock him a few places on the list.

Overall, though, with not many wet races in the season, it was Albon who stood out, while there were others who didn't have the same kind of success in crucial moments.

#4 Oscar Piastri (McLaren)

Oscar Piastri made his way onto the list primarily because of the pace the driver showed in these conditions throughout the season. In multiple sessions that we've had this season in the dry and wet, one thing that has stood out is that the Aussie has had the pace in his McLaren that has proven to be the benchmark.

At the same time, he didn't put together the results. The error in Australia cost him potentially a podium. The error behind the safety car in Silverstone cost him a podium as well.

During the 2025 F1 season, there were moments where he was unlucky as well. For instance, the Miami GP sprint stands out in that respect.

With that being said, the Aussie still finds himself in the top 4 for the 2025 F1 season.

#3 Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber)

Nico Hulkenberg could have arguably made a bigger splash on this list, as some of the highlights of the driver's 2025 F1 season are from these tricky conditions. His P6 in Australia in the wet turned heads because Sauber never really expected many points all season.

Then came his first-ever F1 podium in Silverstone, owing to a remarkable drive holding off Lewis Hamilton in a Ferrari.

Nico Hulkenberg has often been regarded as a brilliant driver in the wet, and some of his performances in the 2025 F1 season were a reminder of the same.

#2 Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing)

Max Verstappen finds himself in P2 on this list, and a part of it is the result of the Dutch driver making a few uncharacteristic errors in the wet weather. The Red Bull RB21 was a tough car to drive in any conditions this season, but the error in Silverstone during the safety car restart or going off during the race in Australia were some of the moments that meant he couldn't maximize everything in the car.

He was still his brilliant self more often than not, but he left some stuff on the table this time around.

#1 Lando Norris (McLaren)

At the top, we have the 2025 F1 world champion, Lando Norris. The British driver arguably was not the fastest driver this season in the wet, as that accolade could have easily just gone to his teammate. However, he was still someone who knew that the most important part of success in the wet weather conditions is keeping calm and knowing exactly when the right time is to push.

This was exactly what Lando Norris did in both Australia and Silverstone, as he won both races. The lap in Las Vegas, where he ended up securing pole position by a comfortable margin, was just another example of how mature he was in the conditions.
