While LeBron James, Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid get most of the attention for the Philadelphia 76ers, it is Tyrese Maxey who should really be putting fear into opposing teams. The guard out of Kentucky is one of the shiftiest players in the entire NBA.
Maxey continues to get better with every game. Over the weekend, in a game where James and Embiid were both sidelined, he went nuclear.
“Tyrese Maxey tonight as the 76ers improve to 6-1 this season: 38 points (15 in 4Q), 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals. This is the third time this season that he has scored 15+ points in the fourth quarter,” ClutchPoints wrote.
On Monday, it was more of the same for Maxey, particularly in the fourth quarter, when he took over the game. It wasn't a particularly high-scoring night for the guard — at least until the fourth quarter.
“Tyrese Maxey scored 15 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and dished out 11 assists to highlight the Philadelphia 76ers' 126-107 victory over the visiting Chicago Bulls on Monday,” The News Tribune wrote.
In the game against the Chicago Bulls, Maxey made franchise history, joining an exclusive group that includes some of the greatest players to ever wear a 76ers uniform. Maxey became just the third player in franchise history to accomplish the feat, joining Allen Iverson and Wilt Chamberlain.
“Tyrese Maxey is the third player in 76ers history with 20+ games of 25 points and 10 assists, joining Allen Iverson (65) and Wilt Chamberlain (25),” ESPN’s Kris Rhim posted.
This shows just how special Maxey is, especially with so many weapons around him to whom he can distribute the ball. While he has a knack for scoring, it is also clear that he can set his teammates up and get them involved.
The guard out of Kentucky has been a special find for Philadelphia since he was drafted, and he continues to prove that. Now, playing alongside some of the best in the world, his game continues to evolve, with his latest accomplishment putting him in the history books alongside 76ers legends.
