76ers' LeBron James just created major loophole for the entire NBA after $15M Polymarket deal

The LeBron James era in Philadelphia is set to begin very soon, with training camp on the horizon and the entire league preparing for the new season. James is coming to the 76ers after a long and calculated free agency.

It is truly amazing that the four-time NBA champion is still going at 41 years of age. James will be competing this season on his smallest NBA contract ever.

“LeBron James is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers for his final run at another NBA championship, he announced Friday," ESPN's Dave McMenamin wrote. "James, 41, is signing a two-year, $8 million contract with a player option, Klutch Sports Group CEO Rich Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania."

However, there have been some other moves that help him make more money. James recently partnered with Polymarket on a deal worth $15 million.

“LeBron James will make more money from his Polymarket partnership than from playing for the 76ers, Front Office Sports has learned. The prediction-market platform is paying James $15 million a year under the recently announced partnership, sources tell FOS. James is not an investor in Polymarket, just an endorser, one source says," Front Office Sports' Ryan Glasspiegel and Ben Horney wrote.

The former MVP has found a way to make some money after signing his smallest contract ever. What this could lead to is a loophole for teams around the league, NBA insider Brett Siegel believes.

“As far as my knowledge goes, this doesn’t interfere with any CBA rules, but moving forward, these side deals players have with companies could directly lead to smaller contracts to help with cap relief, which in theory, is kind of like cap circumvention,” Siegel wrote.

Now, when teams and players consider what to do in free agency, these kinds of moves can definitely be on the horizon. James has changed the game in so many ways, but at the age of 41, he may have just changed the complexity of free agency.

While it is unknown when the Polymarket deal started being worked on, this could have played a small part in James’ decision. Future free agents who are older or want to go somewhere without much cap room can now potentially use this method.
