Drew McIntyre is set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship one more time. The Scottish Warrior will also be picking the stipulation for their upcoming clash, putting him at a significant advantage.
McIntyre was unable to dethrone Cody Rhodes at Wrestlepalooza and Saturday Night's Main Event. While he lost cleanly at Wrestlepalooza, his defeat at SNME was much more controversial. Rhodes would have lost the title if he had been disqualified, but The American Nightmare used the championship to his advantage behind the referee's back, eventually earning the win.
The Scottish Warrior was eventually suspended from SmackDown for attacking the referee at SNME, and was recently reinstated by General Manager Nick Aldis as part of a cinematic segment filmed by WWE at his home. While fans are rooting for Drew McIntyre to finally dethrone Cody Rhodes, WWE could have different plans up its sleeve if it wants to avoid a title change. To ensure that McIntyre doesn't lose any more momentum with another loss to Rhodes, it could have Oba Femi interfere in their upcoming title match.
McIntyre interfered in The Ruler's match against Rhodes at Saturday Night's Main Event XLII, and Oba Femi could do the same in their upcoming match. The NXT Champion is expected to move to the main roster soon, and could start a feud with McIntyre immediately upon his arrival by costing him the WWE Championship.
Drew McIntyre's WWE SmackDown return data revealed
Drew McIntyre has not been on SmackDown since the episode after Survivor Series WarGames, when he was attacked backstage by Cody Rhodes and sent home by Nick Aldis.
However, his return date has now been revealed. The former WWE Champion will make his comeback on the December 26 episode of SmackDown, where he will address his feud with Rhodes and will likely pick the stipulation for their upcoming title match.
It remains to be seen how things turn out between the two bitter rivals and whether the title will change hands in the new year.
