Title changes have been one of the most interesting prospects in WWE. In the world of pro wrestling where storylines and rivalries dance in harmony, championships serve as the ultimate reward. In 2025, the WWE Universe witnessed several title change hands and new champions being crowned. However, not all decisions pleased fans.

There have been several instances when Triple took controversial decisions that enraged fans collectively. Whether it was Jey Uso winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41 or the Women's United States Title changing hands, several decisions garnered a chorus of boos. It left the Stamford-based promotion with backlash.

Here are five WWE title changes in 2025 that should not have happened:

#5. Chelsea Green beating Giulia

Giulia won the Women's United States Championship back in June this year. This marked her first main roster singles championship in WWE, coming just over a month after her official call-up to SmackDown. However, The Beautiful Madness had a lackluster title run that ended miserably after 133 days when Chelsea Green beat her in a controversial fashion.

It was a deplorable move that completely slaughtered her momentum and washed away all the hype Giulia had when she arrived on the main roster. Instead, the company should have given her championship reign a new direction from that point. It would have helped the company elevate the Japanese star and build some blockbuster matches on SmackDown.

#4. The Wyatt Sicks dethroning The Street Profits

The Wyatt Sicks was involved in a chaotic feud with the SmackDown tag team division earlier this year. The months of storyline ultimately led to a WWE Tag Team Championship match where the sinister faction shockingly dethroned The Street Profits to win the coveted title. This is a title change that should have never happened in the first place.

The Wyatt Sicks is a faction that does not need any titles or materialistic things. It thrives on its spooky supernatural gimmick. They have held the WWE Tag Team Championship hostage ever since winning it. The title has barely been defended and the SmackDown tag team division has been wandering directionless. Hence, the idea of that title chance was lamentable.

#3. Maxxine Dupri beating Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch was reigning supreme as the Women's Intercontinental Champion on Monday Night RAW. However, she lost the gold to Maxxine Dupri on the November 17, 2025 edition of RAW in Madison Square. Sure, it was a big moment for Dupri, who got a career-defining spotlight. But as soon as Becky lost, the red-hot women's mid-card division once again lost its lustre.

WWE should have kept the coveted title on The Man at least until Royal Rumble 2026. While crowning Maxxine Dupri was a great move on an individual level, it has somewhat curtailed the possibility of high-profile matches and blockbuster feuds that Becky Lynch could have delivered with the Women's Intercontinental Championship on the Road to WrestleMania.

#2. Solo Sikoa losing the United States Championship

Solo Sikoa defeated Jacob Fatu at Night of Champions on June 28 to win the United States Championship. It was his first singles title on the main roster and his victory came at a time when WWE was re-establishing Sikoa at the pedestal by resurging his faction. The title reign that should have put the entire roster on notice surprisingly ended in just two months.

The 32-year-old lost the United States Championship to Sami Zayn on the August 29 episode of SmackDown. Taking the title from a red-hot Solo Sikoa was a controversial decision that shouldn't have happened in the first place. WWE should have given The Street Champion a commendable title run that could have truly made Sikoa look like a top-tier star.

#1. Gunther losing to Jey Uso at WWE WrestleMania 41

One of the biggest and most controversial title changes came at WrestleMania 41 when Jey Uso beat Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. This move received massive criticisms and it shouldn't have been prevented from the get-go. Even though The YEET Master was pretty much over among the fans, he wasn't ready for a main-event push.

It looked like WWE was shoving Jey Uso down fans' throats when they weren't ready to take it and there was already backlash. As a result, the title change received massive criticism from fans. Besides, Jey's championship run was not good either, as the OG Bloodline member failed to establish his footing as a world champion. Hence, Gunther should have retained his title at WrestleMania 41.
