Ravindra Jadeja was the highlight for India as they continued to dominate on Day 2 of the first Test against South Africa. The game is being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

After bowling South Africa out for 159 in the first innings, India ended the opening day on 37/1. Resuming the batting on Day 2, the hosts managed to gain a slender lead. The batters had a tough time as India were bundled out for 189 in 62.2 overs.

While the Proteas did pose a fight with the ball, the hosts bounced back to leave the visitors in all sorts of trouble as the second day ended. South Africa were reduced to 93/7 at stumps, leading by 63 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India, returning figures of 4/29 in 13 overs. The hosts will be eager to wrap up the South African innings quickly and chase the total down.

That said, let us take a look at five records/milestones made on Day 2 of the first Test between India and South Africa.


#5 No individual 50-plus scores in the first innings of both teams in a Test in India

No batter scored a half-century in South Africa's first innings. Aiden Markram top-scored with 31 for the visitors. For the hosts as well, no batter got past the 50-run mark, with KL Rahul being the highest scorer, making 39 runs.

This was only the third such instance where there were no individual 50-plus scores in the first innings of both teams in a Test match in India. The first such instance came during the 1987 Test against the West Indies in Delhi, where Desmond Haynes top-scored with 45. In the 2015 Test against South Africa in Nagpur, Murali Vijay top-scored with 40.


#4 4000 Test runs for KL Rahul

KL Rahul played a hard-fought innings, scoring 39 runs off 119 balls at the top. The right-hander crossed the 4000-run mark in Test cricket. He reached the landmark in 3977 days after his debut in the format and became the 18th Indian batter to do so.

Rahul made his Test debut in 2014. So far, he has represented India in 66 matches. In 115 innings, he has scored 4024 runs at an average of 36.58 with 11 hundreds and 20 half-centuries.


#3 Double of 4000 runs and 300 wickets in Tests

Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja entered an elite club, achieving an incredible feat of scoring 4000 runs and picking up 300 wickets in Test cricket. He joined legendary players such as Sir Ian Botham, Kapil Dev, and Daniel Vettori, who previously achieved the feat.

Ravindra Jadeja made his Test debut in 2012. He has featured in 88 Tests for India so far. With his 27-run knock on Day 1 against South Africa, he crossed the 4000-run mark. He now has 4017 runs in 130 innings. With the ball, he has bagged 342 wickets in 165 innings.


#2 Most sixes for India in Tests

Star wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant marked his return to Test cricket after he was away due to an injury he picked up in England. Pant scored 27 runs off 24 balls in India's first innings. He struck two sixes in his knock and became the Indian batter with the most maximums in Test cricket.

With 92 sixes, he overtook former opener Virender Sehwag, who previously held the record with 90 maximums. Rohit Sharma is third on the list with 88 sixes, while Ravindra Jadeja is fourth with 80 maximums.


#1 Ravindra Jadeja's WTC and home Test record

With his four-wicket haul in the first innings, Ravindra Jadeja achieved two more milestones. He became only the third spinner to reach the 150-wickets mark in the World Test Championship (WTC) history. He is behind Nathan Lyon (219 wickets) and Ravichandran Ashwin (195 wickets).

Ravindra Jadeja also became only the fourth bowler to take 250 Test wickets at home. He has 250 scalps in 52 Tests at home. The all-rounder joined Ashwin (383 wickets), Anil Kumble (350 wickets), and Harbhajan Singh (265 wickets).
