The 2025 Bank of Utah Championship concluded on Sunday, October 26, at the Black Desert Golf Course. The event was the fourth stop of the FedEx Cup Fall series and featured five players ranked inside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Michael Brennan won his first PGA Tour title at the Bank of Utah Championship, earning $1.08 million after defying his +8000 odds. However not everyone lived up to their pre-tournament expectations. Several players entered the week in strong form, but fell short. Here’s a look at five golfers who underperformed at the Bank of Utah Championship.

5. Max Homa

Max Homa came into the week as one of the biggest names in the field, carrying odds of +4000. The six-time PGA Tour winner, though winless since 2023, was expected to contend at Black Desert Golf Course. However he settled for a T9 finish at 15-under par.

Homa started with a 70 (-1) and followed it up with a bogey-free 66 (-5). He matched that score again on Saturday, including six birdies, three bogeys and an eagle. He closed with a 67 (-4) on Sunday but still fell short of expectations.

4. Christiaan Bezuidenhout

Christiaan Bezuidenhout entered the event in solid form after a T6 at the Sanderson Farms Championship and a T10 at the Baycurrent Classic. With odds of +3500, many expected him to continue his good form, but he struggled in Utah.

The South African carded rounds of 70 (-1), 68 (-3), 67 (-4) and 71 (E) to finish T42 at 8-under par.

3. Jason Day

Jason Day was among the pre-tournament favorites with +3000 odds but could only manage a T20 finish at 12-under par. The 13-time PGA Tour winner has yet to record a win this season despite four top-10s.

He opened with a 68 (-3) but slipped on Friday with a 72 (+1). Day bounced back over the weekend with rounds of 67 (-4) and 65 (-6), yet his late push wasn’t enough to meet expectations.

2. Kurt Kitayama

Kurt Kitayama had one of the lowest odds in the field at +2000 after already winning the 3M Open earlier this year. Despite finishing T15 at 13-under, the performance was below what many expected from him.

Kitayama began with a 68 (-3) and 70 (-1), followed by a 69 (-2) on Saturday. He closed with an impressive 64 (-7) but couldn’t climb high enough on the leaderboard to justify his strong odds.

1. Michael Thorbjornsen

Michael Thorbjornsen was among the top betting favorites with +1600 odds but could only finish T37 at 9-under par. The 24-year-old has shown potential this season including a runner-up and four top-10s, but he struggled in Utah.

He opened with rounds of 70 (-1) and 69 (-2), followed by 67 (-4) and 69 (-2). He entered the event with high expectations after a solo third in his previous start at Baycurrent Classic, but couldn’t carry that form into Black Desert.
