It's an easy discussion point.

Of course it would make sense for the San Francisco 49ers to sign Joey Bosa, who remains a free agent after spending the 2025 season with the Buffalo Bills.

The reason is obvious: His brother Nick already plays for the 49ers.

Shoot, their mom has shared posts on social media essentially encouraging the brothers to team up in San Francisco.

But let's go beyond the obvious. There's another reason it makes sense for the 49ers to do this.

In short: They have so much available cap space.

According to Spotrac, the 49ers have $67.4 million in available cap space. That's the most in the entire NFL.

Fans have noticed and are begging for the move on social media (although it's worth noting from the post below that Justin Simmons actually just retired):

I don't understand the #49ers hoarding cap space.

It feels like they should be making moves for guys like Joey Bosa and Justin Simmons.

They're not that far off from title contention. Use the resources you have available to boost your chances.

Joey Bosa is going to turn 31 in July and is a five-time Pro Bowler.

He played 15 games for the Bills in 2025 and led the league in forced fumbles, with five. He totaled 5.0 sacks, as well.

He's not necessarily an every-down player at this point, especially to keep him healthy, but he seems like he'd probably be worth whatever the 49ers want to pay him. Besides, they could use the pass rush help.

There's really no reason for the veteran Bosa to rush things at this point, but eventually, San Francisco could wind up being the very logical destination, for multiple reasons.
