49ers make incredible George Kittle roster move amid Achilles injury recovery

1 hour ago 2

The San Francisco 49ers have been dealing with a plethora of injuries in the last few years. Heading into 2026, they're hoping to get multiple of their star players, including Fred Warner, George Kittle, and Nick Bosa, back from serious injuries.

While the Warner and Bosa injuries haven't been as big of a concern, since they happened earlier in the 2025 season, Kittle's Achilles injury happened in January in the Wild Card round of the playoffs and is a huge concern.

But, as ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting, the 49ers have activated Kittle off the Physically Unable to Perform List in a roster move that's some huge news for the 49ers, and helps solidify Kittle's incredible recovery.

49ers activate George Kittle from PUP in incredible roster move

"Help is on the wya in SF: the 49ers activated TE George Kittle from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List," Schefter reports.

Kittle being activated from the PUP this soon after his serious Achilles injury is a testament to his incredible recovery speed.

When his injury was officially announced, the expectation was he'd miss time during the 2026 regular season. But now, he might be good to go for Week 1.

There is obviously a problem for Kittle, and it's that their Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams is over in Australia.

It's a much more demanding process for Kittle to be ready to go for Week 1 than some other weeks, and it might not be a bad idea to rest him for the first week of the season if there is any concern about him not being ready.

But if Kittle is good to go and the 49ers aren't worried about further injury, then it would not be a surprise if he was on the field to begin the season.

The seven-time Pro Bowler, two-time First-Team All-Pro, and career 8,008-yard receiver with 52 touchdowns might be good to go in Week 1 for the 49ers after a January Achilles injury.

It's a remarkable turnaround for Kittle, regardless of whether he's active for Week 1 or not. Just being activated off the PUP at this point is already incredible enough, and something that 49ers fans should be very excited to see.
