Real Madrid injury list: Players out, potential return dates, predicted lineup for next game vs. Alaves

1 hour ago 3

Real Madrid have a mountain to climb as they look to overturn an aggregate deficit in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal on the road at high-flying Bayern Munich.

Los Blancos suffered a 2-1 home defeat last week in the first leg, which has placed further scrutiny on head coach Alvaro Arbeloa and left supporters in mutinous mood.

To make matters worse, Madrid have fallen nine points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race having failed to win either of their last two domestic matches, so their form coming into this match is poor.

The task here is exceedingly difficult, as Bayern Munich are one of the most successful attacking sides in the world at the moment, having broken the Bundesliga single-season goal scoring record with seven matches still to go in the season.

The Sporting News brings you the rest of Real Madrid's injury list, as well as a look at their latest team news and a preview of how they could line up in their next game.

Real Madrid injury list

Below is the latest injury picture for Real Madrid, including estimated return dates for those who are sidelined.

Thibaut Courtois

  • Injury: Quad
  • Expected return date: April 22 (vs. Alaves)

Just prior to the victory over Atletico Madrid, it was confirmed that standout goalkeeper Courtois would miss significant time due to an injury to his right leg. The return timeline was expected to be four to six weeks, and he missed both Champions League legs against Bayern Munich.

With Real Madrid now out of Europe, Courtois has returned to training and is expected to be back on the field against Alaves.

Raul Asencio

  • Injury: Illness
  • Expected return date: May 3 (vs. Espanyol)

Defender Raul Asencio was not included in the Real Madrid squad for the second leg against Bayern Munich due to gastroenteritis. After missing the match, he was sent to the hospital after losing significant weight, and was diagnosed with enterocolitis. He is expected to miss a little bit more time as he recovers.

Rodrygo

  • Injury: ACL
  • Expected return date: September

Rodrygo has suffered a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament and a rupture of the lateral meniscus in his right leg. This significant setback means the Brazil forward will miss the 2026 World Cup and he is likely to be sidelined for at least six months, possibly longer.
