The San Francisco 49ers did it. They signed quarterback Brock Purdy to a contract extension, giving him five years and $265 million to solidify the position for the foreseeable future.
Purdy's contract puts him in the top seven among the quarterbacks in the league. It also gives him $181 million in guaranteed money, a massive payday for the guy who was the last pick in the NFL Draft and has become a staple of the 49ers franchise since then.
Well, $265 million is a ton of money, but Purdy says there is one thing he wants to buy at some point.
"For the most part, I'm pretty sure we're just gonna keep it simple. I was talking about maybe buying a bass fishing boat down the road and that's something I've always wanted since I was a kid. You might see us fishing more often," Purdy said during an interview with Tom Pelissero.
Purdy was born and grew up in Arizona before going to play for the Iowa State Cyclones, and now he lives in the Bay Area, so a fishing boat might be purchased under Purdy's name somewhere down the line.
But, still, he wants to keep it simple.
As for the 49ers, they traded away Deebo Samuel but did give Fred Warner and George Kittle an extension, so there are a lot of pieces back as they hope to make another Super Bowl run and make some noise in the postseason.
