With the NFL Draft complete, the San Francisco 49ers are on to the next item on their offseason priority board.
That almost certainly is to sign Brock Purdy to a contract extension.
NFL.com's Judy Battista explains it like this:
"The 49ers have shown a comfort level with allowing contract extensions to be made late into the summer, but given how 2024 cratered, they’d be wise to get Purdy wrapped up so that the QB, and everyone else, can concentrate on moving forward with what looks to be a much different team."
That's a fair take by Battista, especially given the 49ers also have Fred Warner and George Kittle seeking extensions.
Getting Purdy's deal done sooner rather than later would just be wise business.
Reports from last week indicate that the 49ers and their QB have made progress in negotiations.

Those around the league will wait to see what the number is.
Purdy rose from the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft into a legitimate starting quarterback, but some still doubt his ability to lead a team to the promised land (although he already got San Francisco to a Super Bowl).
Maybe he's not a top-10 NFL quarterback, but rarely does an NFL star sign an extension and not get paid among the best at their position.
Purdy is going to get more than $50 million per year, it seems, to take him in that ballpark of top-10 QBs.
And based on Battista's thinking, it seems that agreement could be coming sooner rather than later.
