49ers' big George Kittle decision revealed prior to $76 million deal

The San Francisco 49ers faced a lot of questions regarding tight end George Kittle and quarterback Brock Purdy. After the 2025 NFL Draft came to an end, the 49ers answered the question about Kittle.

They signed the Pro Bowl tight end to a four-year deal worth $76 million, keeping him in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future.

Keeping Kittle was a big priority for the 49ers, and the two sides were able to get a deal done before the summer. However, it turns out the 49ers received trade calls about Kittle prior to the NFL Draft, but the 49ers rejected, as Dianna Russini of The Athletic mentioned in an episode of Scoop City

"I know there was a team that had a conversation a night before the draft about a possible trade for Kittle, a second-rounder they were looking to get in return," Russini said. "They turned it down, the 49ers decided to keep him and really move this situation forward by getting a deal done."

"I don't think the 49ers ever wanted to walk away from George Kittle, either," Russini added.

Russini didn't reveal what team it was, but Chase Daniel was a bit surprised that the 49ers turned down that deal. But, days later, they got a contract done, and the star tight end remains in San Francisco for years to come.
