For most of my life, I treated self-care like a fire extinguisher — something you break out only when everything’s already burning down. I’d grind until I hit a wall, crash hard, then spend a weekend “recharging” and call it a system.
Spoiler: it wasn’t.
It took me way too long to figure out that self-care isn’t a rescue mission you launch when you’re in a rut. It’s maintenance. It’s the stuff you do every single day so your tank never runs empty in the first place.
Nobody waits until their car dies on the highway to think about gas. But that’s exactly how I used to treat my own energy, motivation, and mental health.
These days I try to keep the needle off E — and part of how I do that is with little daily hits of perspective, like the ones below.
These images all come from r/GetMotivated, one of my favorite corners of the internet for exactly this reason. Some of them will fire you up, some will hit you right in the chest, but all of them are a good reminder to keep your tank topped off.
