There is plenty of blame to go around for the Chargers' 0-7 start, but there is no doubt it's been an ugly year for Justin Herbert.
The former Pro-Bowler's numbers speak for themselves, as he has double the interceptions as he has passing touchdowns, and there just haven's been any clean games for L.A.'s offense.
As offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel's job comes into question, these stats show Herbert has to receive some of the blame.

4 stats that show how bad Justin Herbert has been in 2026
9 consecutive starts without multiple TDs
Dating back to 2025, Herbert now has a streak of nine consecutive starts without multiple touchdowns, a streak that only Ryan Leaf (12) has beaten in Chargers history.
For a quarterback who was hailed as one of the NFL's best in the early years of his career, it's a baffling stat. It's not uncommon for high-level quarterbacks to be turnover-prone, but they at least rack up touchdowns right alongside those turnovers. Herbert doesn't have a single game with more than one touchdown this season, and the streak is already longer than any Philip Rivers ever had.
As many INTs as 2023 and 2024 combined
Herbert has thrown 10 touchdowns in seven games this season, matching his combined interception total from 2023 and 2024.
That's as absurd as it sounds: Herbert threw exactly 10 interceptions across 30 games between those seasons, and he now has 10 interceptions in just seven games this season. Chargers fans would've hoped 10 interceptions in seven from Herbert would at least mean he is putting up gaudy numbers from a yards and touchdowns standpoint, but that hasn't been the case.

Only QB with an INT in each game in 2026
Herbert is the only NFL quarterback with an interception in each of his team's games this season, despite playing one fewer game than teams who haven't reached their bye. The Chargers have been looking for a clean game from Herbert to get him back on track, but it hasn't come to this point.
4th QB in NFL history to start 0-7 with an INT in each game
With Sunday's loss to the Rams, Herbert became the fourth quarterback in NFL history to start the season with an interception and a loss in each of his first seven games. The club Herbert joined is nothing to be excited about, as it's comprised of Steve DeBerg (1985), Dennis Shaw (1971) and Norm Snead (1961).
McDaniel's offense has been all-around abysmal through two months, and Herbert has now entered conversations including the name Steve DeBerg after rivaling the production of some of the NFL's elite quarterbacks in his early years.
