Over the years, WWE has created several championships to recognize superstars all around the world. Some titles became legendary, defining eras and careers, while others struggled to find lasting relevance and ended up being retired as well.
In recent years, the company has not been able to make a few titles very important, and thus, there isn’t an interesting story revolving around the titles. The titles are not defended that frequently, which makes things more questionable.
In a modern landscape that thrives on storytelling, star power, and marquee rivalries, WWE could retire a few championships to make things more intriguing by using the massive rosters fighting for one title. Retiring certain championships would help restore the significance of existing titles and bring back the sense of exclusivity that once defined being a champion. Let’s check out a few WWE titles that have run their course and deserve retirement.
#3. WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships
When the Women’s Tag Team Titles were introduced, they were meant to unite the women’s divisions across RAW, SmackDown, and NXT. However, the titles have ended up with by inconsistent storylines, frequent team breakups, and a lack of direction.

Most champions barely defend the titles, and the division has not been able to get the fans excited. Despite a few interesting title reigns, the Women’s Tag Team Championships haven’t established lasting credibility. Retiring them would allow WWE to focus on stronger singles rivalries and enhance the women’s roster in the best way possible.
#2. Women’s United States Championship
The WWE Women’s United States Championship, a relatively new addition, has struggled to find its place on the roster. While the Women’s Intercontinental Championship was introduced along with it, the storylines have managed to make the title more important than the US title.
Further, the consistent lack of storylines has ended up leaving fans uninterested in the titles and the title picture as well. Considering the recent developments in the story, it would be better if the company chose to retire the title and focused more on the other titles currently present on the roster.
#1. NXT Heritage Cup
The NXT Heritage Cup was created to honor British wrestling traditions with its unique round-based format, but it hasn’t been able to make things quite intriguing. While the idea was fresh in NXT UK, its transition to NXT hasn’t managed to keep the fans on the edge of their seats, witnessing the storylines.
Despite some big names from NXT being a part of the storylines for the title, the NXT Heritage Cup hasn’t managed to make headlines, and is one of the first titles that the company should retire among the list of titles currently active in the company.
