3 Rangers trade candidates heading into the 2026 NHL offseason

1 hour ago 2

The New York Rangers traded multiple players this season to kick off their retool. Artemi Panarin, Carson Soucy, Sam Carrick, and Brennan Othmann were all moved by the Rangers prior to the 2026 NHL trade deadline.

However, with the Rangers focused on the future, it would not be surprising if they traded more players this summer. The Rangers still lack high-end young talent, and beefing up their prospect pool is a must.

Because of this, let’s look at three Rangers who could be on the move during the 2026 NHL offseason.

Vincent Trocheck, C

Vincent Trocheck is the Rangers’ biggest trade candidate to watch during this summer. It’s no secret that the Rangers were willing to move him ahead of the trade deadline. However, they did not get the trade package they desired, so the 32-year-old center will be finishing the year in New York.

Yet, there is an expectation that the Rangers will shop Trocheck again this offseason. Teams looking for a top-six center who works in all situations should make a major push for him this offseason. In 57 games this season, he has 15 goals, 33 assists, and 48 points.

Braden Schneider, D

Braden Schneider is another Ranger who was the subject of trade rumors leading up to the deadline. Due to this, it would not be surprising if teams kicked tires on the 24-year-old defenseman this summer. This is especially true given that he is a pending RFA.

With Schneider being a big right-shot defenseman and a former first-round pick, the Rangers could get a strong return for him if they decide to move him. In 72 games this season, he has two goals, 15 points, 120 blocks, and 150 hits.

Alexis Lafreniere, LW/RW

Alexis Lafreniere could be another Rangers trade candidate to keep an eye on during the summer. The 2020 first-overall pick has been the subject of trade speculation for quite some time and could generate interest from teams looking to add another skilled forward to their top six.

Lafreniere has a $7.45 million cap hit until the end of the 2031-32 season, so he would be far more than a rental for any interested clubs. In 72 games this season with the Rangers, he has 21 goals and 50 points. He has also been red-hot as the season rolls on, as he has six goals and 11 points over his last eight games.
