3 players who can replace Germaine Pratt in the Cincinnati Bengals defense

The Cincinnati Bengals made an interesting move on Monday, which was releasing veteran linebacker Germaine Pratt. He spent the last six seasons as a member of the Bengals and has been a consistent starter for them for the previous five. Now it is time for the Bengals to transition their linebacker corps to a new group. Here are three linebackers that can be expected to fill the void left by Pratt.

  1. Demetrius Knight Jr.

The Bengals used their second-round draft pick on linebacker Demetrius Knight from South Carolina. You do not use a top draft pick on a player unless you expect to play him early in his career. Knight will likely be one of the starting linebackers on the Bengals, and he is the most likely option to replace Pratt.

  1. Barrett Carter

Another player the Bengals used a draft pick on was Barrett Carter from Clemson. He was their fourth-round selection in the 2025 draft, which means his spot on the roster is solidified. It may be rare for day three picks to become starters in year one. Still, Carter can be a contributor, according to draft analyst Lance Zierlein: “Carter’s demeanor, versatility and athletic profile give him a good chance of becoming a quality starter as a run-and-chase Will linebacker.”

  1. Oren Burks

The only veteran on the list is newly signed linebacker Oren Burks. He comes to Cincinnati on a one-year deal after spending last season with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played in all 17 games for the Eagles in a backup role. But he graded out quite well when on the field, according to PFF. He has an overall grade of 83.0, which ranks 13th amongst linebackers. Do not be surprised if the Bengals look to the veteran to play a significant role on their defense.

Each of these players will likely see plenty of action for the Bengals in 2025. It will be interesting to see which one emerges in the role left by Pratt.
