The Vancouver Canucks suffered a 6-3 thrashing at home to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. Despite taking an early lead and outshooting the Flyers 35-33, the Canucks could not build on their momentum in the remainder of the game.
David Kampf, Drew O’Connor, and Tom Willander were the three goal scorers for them in the matchup. The shaky defense, goaltending, and disappointing offense let down the Canucks, who remain at the bottom of the Pacific Division with a 16-20-3 record.
Below are the least impressive Vancouver Canucks players from the defeat against the Philadelphia Flyers.
#3 Evander Kane
Kane was highly visible for the wrong reasons. He dropped the gloves early in the first period against Nick Seeler but landed no punches and was quickly taken down, failing to provide the expected spark or shift momentum.
He finished with no points and a -2. His fight did little to energize the team in a game where the Canucks struggled to keep pace after the opening goal.
#2 Thatcher Demko
Starting on the second night of a back-to-back, Demko faced 31 shots and allowed 4 goals (including a quick response after Vancouver cut the lead to 3-2 in the third).
While the defense shared blame for allowing Philadelphia to dominate possession in key stretches, Demko couldn’t make the timely saves needed to keep the Canucks in it. The goaltender finished the game with an .871 save percentage.
#1 Elias Pettersson
As a top-line center and key offensive driver, Pettersson went pointless with limited impact in a game where Vancouver managed only 2 goals.
The Canucks’ stars, including Pettersson on the first line with Kane and Brock Boeser, failed to generate consistent pressure or capitalize on opportunities, contributing to the team’s inability to mount a sustained comeback. He has scored only one point in the last five games.
The Vancouver Canucks continue their home stand against the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Arena next on Friday. The puck drops at 10:30 p.m. ET.
