Last month at Worlds 2025, Mercedes Mone teamed up with Athena to challenge The Babes of Wrath for the AEW Women's World Tag Team Titles. The champions successfully retained their straps against "Ultimo" Mone and The Fallen Goddess after Willow Nightingale pinned Mercedes' shoulders to the mat for the three count.
After the pay-per-view, The CEO issued a challenge to The Babe with The Power to face her on Dynamite: New Year's Smash. On the show this past Wednesday, however, Willow pulled off a massive upset as she dethroned Mone to regain the TBS Championship, a belt she had lost to the erstwhile Sasha Banks last year.
After her incredibly successful first couple of years in the company, Mercedes' character has seemingly hit a major snag, as she will no doubt take her defeat at the hands of Nightingale quite personally. She should be interested in bouncing back to winning ways in the promotion soon. But there may be more obstacles for her to overcome along the way first.
With all this in mind, let us consider three directions for Mercedes Mone after her TBS Championship loss on AEW Dynamite.
#1. Mercedes Mone could lose her indie titles one by one
Seeing how Mercedes Mone lost her only All Elite Wrestling singles championship to kick off the new year, it may not be unreasonable to assume that the former WWE superstar could go on a temporary hiatus from AEW's weekly programming. During her absence, The Boss would very likely be defending her many other belts, which she won across various independent promotions.
While she did end up dropping a couple of these championships recently, Mone still holds an array of belts at present, including the EWA Women's Title, the CMLL World Women's Title, the Bestya and PTW Women's Titles, the DW Women's Title, the BODYSLAM Women's Title, the WPW Women's Title, and the APAC Women's Title.

#2. Mercedes Mone could win the 2026 Owen Hart Cup with some help
Last year, Mercedes Mone took part in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, defeating Julia Hart in the quarterfinals and Athena in the semis to advance to the finals at Double or Nothing 2025, where she defeated Jamie Hayter to capture the Owen Cup officially.
The victory earned The CEO of Professional Wrestling a shot at the AEW Women's World Title at All In: Texas- unfortunately, the challenger was unable to unseat the defending champion, "Timeless" Toni Storm, at the blockbuster stadium PPV.

Now that she has no AEW gold around her waist, Mone will likely be more desperate than ever to capture the top prize of the company's women's division. To do that, she could enter the 2026 Owen Hart Tournament for another Women's World Title shot. Mone could even enlist outside help to ensure she wins the tourney again- for instance, her long-rumored faction with The Renegade Twins could enable her to retain the Owen Cup.
#3. Mercedes Mone could finally win the AEW Women's Championship at All In 2026
For almost two years now, All Elite Wrestling has been telling a compelling story with Mercedes Mone, revolving around the latter's inability to grasp the All Elite Wrestling Women's World Title, despite being draped in gold from other promotions. Both of the World Champions who have triumphed against the former Horsewoman so far, Toni Storm and Kris Statlander, have insinuated that Mercedes keeps falling short because she lacks complete focus on the World Title.
If AEW follows a storyline for Mone that explores the directions outlined above, her journey could culminate in her finally getting her hands on the Women's World Championship this year at All In: London 2026. She could do so by defeating any of her major rivals in the company, such as Kris Statlander, Toni Storm, or even Willow Nightingale, if the latter somehow walks into the August 30 pay-per-view with the title.
Beating Willow for the World Championship would no doubt be especially vindicating for Mercedes, especially after Nightingale took the TBS Title away from her this past Wednesday.
