The 2025 Australian Open kicked off on Tuesday, November 18. The opening day of matches at the Super 500 saw the Indian men's and women's doubles contingent in action, and while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty sailed through their opening round, Treesa Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand made an early exit.

Jolly and Gopichand were the first ones out on court today. The duo made their last competitive outing as a pair in July earlier this year, when they played the Macau Open. Since then, the two shuttlers have been on hiatus as Gopichand dealt with injury issues.

In Sydney, Treesa Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand were pitted against Indonesia's Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Meilysa Trias Puspitasari for their opening round encounter. The Indians visibly struggled to find their rhythm throughout the match and were handed a deft thrashing at the hands of their opponents, losing the match 10-21, 14-21 in just 40 minutes.

Up next, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty got down to business at the Australian Open. The duo were up against Chinese Taipei's Chang Ko-Chi and Po Li Wei. While it took the two Indians a minute to acclimatise to the courts at the Quaycentre, they were able to clinch a straight games win, defeating Chang and Po 25-23, 21-16.
