Seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher burst onto the F1 scene in 1991 and won his very first race the very next year. The car in which the German won his first F1 race is now going into auction and is expected to be sold for $10M+.

Schumacher was scouted by former F1 Boss Eddie Jordan, who gave the German his big break in the pinnacle of motorsports. Michael made his debut in Jordan Grand Prix (then Team 7UP Jordan) at the 1991 Belgian GP and immediately impressed everyone with his raw pace, qualifying P7. However, just a few laps into the race, the German retired following a clutch issue.

After the debut race, Flavio Briatore, who was the then-boss of Benetton, signed Michael Schumacher. Out of the five races with Benetton in 1991, the seven-time champion retired from two, and finished the other races inside the Top 6.

Going into the 1992 season, Michael Schumacher was the hottest young driver in the market and showcased his skills in the Benetton B191B, scoring two podiums in the first three races. Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn introduced the all-new Benetton B192 at the fourth round of the season in Spain.

Later that year, with the same car, Schumacher won his very first F1 race at the Belgian GP. The iconic B192 was under Benetton’s possession until the 2000 F1 season, when the team was acquired by Renault. In 2015, it was sold to Laurent Redon’s LRS Formula, and was acquired by the current owner in 2016.

Michael Schumacher and Martin Brundle pushed the Benetton B192 to several podiums during the 1992 F1 season. The car had an inherited disadvantage from the underpowered Ford V8 motor and lacked driver aids like active suspension and traction control, like on the Williams FW14B. Regardless, Schumacher was able to challenge the others for race wins.

“B192-05 stands as one of the most consequential and iconic Formula One cars of the modern era. It represents a turning point—where talent, engineering clarity, and instinct aligned to begin a dynasty. For collectors, it is not simply an opportunity to acquire a Schumacher-era Benetton, but to secure the very moment Formula One changed course,” said Broad Arrow Auctions

Michael Schumacher went on to win a couple of titles with Benetton in 1994 & 1995 before moving to Ferrari and winning five consecutive titles from 2000 to 2004. Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn, who were at Benetton with Schumacher, moved to Ferrari with the German driver and were crucial parts of the early 2000s Ferrari dominance along with Jean Todt.
