Zach Edey just came off a great rookie season where he was named to the All-Rookie First Team.
Edey fit his role well with Memphis, giving them peace of mind at the center position moving forward.
While Edey was preparing to come back for his second year, a brutal injury report was just released regarding the 23-year-old's condition.
What was the news on Edey?
ESPN's Shams Charania announced that Edey "re-sprained his left ankle in an offseason workout this week and will undergo surgery to re-stabilize the ankle."
It was also said that he is expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 NBA season, which is a brutal blow for the Grizzlies.
Edey averaged 9.2 PPG, 8.3 RPG and 1.3 BPG in just 21.5 MPG in 66 games his rookie year.

He came into the league as an older, more experienced player, who might not fit the big role in today's NBA as much as he would a few decades ago, but has still been able to be valuable for Memphis and adapt.
Edey is bound to make a jump on the court when he comes back, after a phenomenal rookie year.
Hopefully, after this injury is healed, few issues come up, because otherwise the 7-4 center could struggle to stay on the court going forward if he accumulates more injuries over time.
