As someone operating in the commerce space who has covered clothing in the past, I get a lot of pitches for lifestyle brands trying to push “elevated basics” for men and women. I write most of them off pretty quickly, but there are a few like YoungLA who offer something different and feel special enough to share with a wider audience.
The Cali-based brand has been churning out impressive collections and making waves with their smart collabs, like their latest partnership with LA Lakers star Austin Reaves. Reaves’ involvement with the brand goes beyond just the typical endorsement. It represents an evolution for YoungLA from fitness and athleisure into full-fledged sportswear. The brand has a history of partnering with people who do more than just model their clothing. They embody the lifestyle that YoungLA perpetuates.
YoungLA’s latest partnership is a collaboration with Lakers star Austin Reaves YoungLAThis new partnership showcases what makes the brand so appealing to me and many others who have steered this recent boom in popularity. It feels more organic…like there’s genuine love and thought going into the collections rather than just some random people realizing they can charge customers a lot of money for sweats and tees.
I’m not athletic and my gym routine primarily consists of brisk walks on the treadmill, and yet I’m obsessed with everything YoungLA puts out there. The clothes are comfortable and come at reasonable prices that are far from the highway robbery I see in so many pitches I receive. I’m including a few of my favorite pieces here, but be sure to check out the rest of what the brand has to offer.
Fight Week Tracksuit Pants
Fight Week Tracksuit Pants YoungLAGrowing up in the ’90s, I had quite the collection of track pants that I would wear as my uniform to gym class. I have been building another small collection for my daily walks around Prospect Park and this “Fight Week” style fits in nicely. The elastic waistband and bag fit make them comfortable to wear for extended periods and easy to move around in.
Perfect Tailored Tee
Perfect Tailored Tee YoungLAI love a simple, plain, solid tee. I can’t get enough of ’em. This shirt is less of a loose fit than I’m used to, but that’s what I appreciate about it. As I get in shape, I like to have options that are a bit more form-fitting. This shirt is an updated version of the brand’s best-selling 466 Tailored Tees, which are nearly sold out.
Soft AF Shorts
Soft AF Shorts YoungLAAnything that is described as “soft AF” is an easy sell for me. When I’m not wearing work clothes, I want to be as comfortable as possible, even when I’m working out or doing one of my walks. These shorts are the perfect length, sitting right above the knees, and they’re the type of item you’ll want in every color they come in.
