ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion ‘Baby Shark’ Diogo Reis captured his first ONE world title at ONE Fight Night 38: Andrade vs. Baatarkhuu on Prime Video last week. But his Brazilian countryman, former bantamweight MMA king ‘Wonder Boy’ Fabricio Andrade wasn’t as fortunate.

Andrade faced the No.4-ranked divisional contender, 'The Tormentor’ Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu in the evening’s main event offering and fell via fourth-round submission, losing his golden belt in the process.

After seeing ‘Wonder Boy’ get completely dominated on the mats, Reis said he offered to help Andrade upgrade his grappling skills the next time he’s in São Paulo. ‘Baby Shark’ told Bangkok Post’s Nick Atkin:

“Since ONE, I knew him, and we started talking, and became friends. And I was cheering for him. Unfortunately, he lost the belt. But I told him, bro, it's okay. You're going to come back. And since he goes to Brazil a lot, I said when you go to Brazil, São Paulo, come to train with us. And also the next time I'll be in Thailand, I go to Phuket to train with him. You know, try new things.”

Reis also said he would come and train with Andrade if he visits Phuket, Thailand, one day, where the former bantamweight titleholder currently resides and trains out of Tiger Muay Thai.

Fans in North America can catch a replay of ONE Fight Night 38: Andrade vs. Baatarkhuu on Amazon Prime Video.

Diogo Reis says MMA stint possible under ONE Championship

‘Baby Shark’ Diogo Reis may not be training with ‘Wonder Boy’ Fabricio Andrade just for fun. In fact, the 23-year-old says he is open to potentially transitioning to MMA one day.

He told Nick Atkin:

“Yeah. Yeah. I tried, you know. As I say, from where I live, once a week I do a boxing training. So I'm trying to do more like that, more often. Like one, two times, keep that. But when I was a kid, I trained a lot in Muay Thai, boxing, everything. Capoeira. So I like that. But as I moved to Melqui Galvão’s gym, I stopped doing that and just kept jiu-jitsu and judo. And after judo, I started training in wrestling. So jiu-jitsu and wrestling was my base.”

Reis continued:

“Yeah. So as I say, I’m on a platform that can make this happen because, you know, it's a good transition. And also ONE, I think they give this opportunity also [to any athlete] what they are doing. So maybe we can make it in a few years, so transition to fighting MMA. Why not?”
