You'll never believe how Trinity Rodman and Ben Shelton started dating

Trinity Rodman has let fans in on how the love story between her and Ben Shelton began.

The Washington Mystics star spoke to Kylie Kece on her "Not Gonna Lie" podcast about when she invited the tennis star to her house without even meeting him. 

“I fully committed to this guy that I didn’t even meet yet, for him to stay at my house for the weekend... It’s actually crazy, it’s insane, but it worked out,” Rodman recalled during an appearance on Kelce’s podcast last month.

However, before it got to that point, there was a DM sent by the soccer star that she admitted she now feels a little "embarrassed" by. 

“Everything I do is just embarrassing. I’m really embarrassed,” Rodman said. “I said ‘You’re sick, fire emoji,’ that’s it ... It worked, he responded within 10 minutes, so I win.”

While Rodman was hard on herself for the DM, Shelton didn't find it to be as cringe and responded to her, “Yeah, you were sick at the Olympics, too, ha ha,” she recalled him writing.

“He matched the cringe situation, and then I think a week or two later we met in person,” she said.

Trinity Rodman supports Ben Shelton at the U.S. Open

Since they began their relationship last year -- the couple went public with their romance in March 2025 -- they have been supportive of their trailblazing sports careers. Recently, Rodman has had several viral moments cheering on Shelton as he continues to advance in the men's singles tournament at the U.S. Open.

Rodman last appeared at the second round of the tournament on Sept. 2, when she went viral for cheering on him as he advanced to the third round. She was seen having a big smile on her face and doing a little dance as her boyfriend completed another milestone in the tournament.

She later highlighted her outfit in a post on Instagram, as her fit featured a black crop top that read "I love my boyfriend." She paired it with a black Adidas skirt with their iconic white stripes that had a unique asymmetrical design.

To top it off, Rodman paired her outfit with white heels that had a single ankle strap and a brown handbag. 

"My turn to serve," Rodman captioned the post.

From a DM to being a staple at each other's matches, a win is a win.

Shelton will be facing reigning U.S. Open champion Carlos Alcaraz at 8:15 p.m. on Sept. 8.
