"You da reason for my notoriety?" - Ja Morant fires shots at Kendrick Perkins for his wild claim about their rift

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant fired back at former NBA player Kendrick Perkins on Monday. Morant responded to what Perkins said about him being the reason why the media was fixated on the All-Star guard. He called out the former Boston Celtics center for the wild claim he recently made.

Morant did not hold back on X (formerly Twitter) when talking about Perk. The 26-year-old NBA star was surprised to learn from the current ESPN analyst that he had played a significant role in gaining media attention.

He did clarify, however, that he doesn't play around with people like Perkins.

"you da reason for my notoriety perk? come on dawg . 😂 you showing em why ion fw yo kind," the two-time All-Star posted on X.

Morant was quick to respond to what Perkins said during his recent guest appearance on "Out The Mud Podcast."

"I was cool with Ja at one point. But then, when Ja started getting in trouble with some of his stuff off the court and s**t like that, I had to speak on it," Perk said. "Me and Ja, Ja don't really f**k with me no more on that s**t.

Perkins claimed that he was the only analyst who had something good to say about Ja Morant at that time. However, due to the NBA star's off-court issues, ESPN and other media outlets shed some light on what happened with the star guard in Memphis.

Perkins felt as if he was responsible for most of it, and he said that it also painted him in a different way.

"You f**k up, not only do that make you look bad, that made me look bad. They recognized you because of me speaking highly of you. It ain’t no coincidence you went from having 3 games on ESPN to 52."

Ja Morant doesn't want to be the "next one" in the NBA

According to Perkins, Ja Morant was touted to be the "next one" in the league. The NBA champion claimed that this was the reason he was getting a lot of attention from the media.

On Monday, Morant addressed his potential to be the next big thing for the NBA. Despite having the talent to be one of the best, the star guard stated that he does not like to be called such. He clarified with The Athletic's Nick Friedell that he never wanted to be viewed as such.

“There’s a lot that comes with that,” Morant said.

Even though he doesn't want that title on him, the Grizzlies star is still one of the best players in the association. Ja Morant has remained focused on leading Memphis despite his numerous off-court problems.
