You can now play Minecraft inside Scratch thanks to this fan project

Minecraft is a simple yet impressive video game in terms of technology and code. It runs both on Java and C++ (Java and Bedrock Edition), which allows players to heavily tweak it and even create mods for it. Over the years, players have attempted to create the game in other coding languages as well. One such example is a player who created Minecraft in Scratch.

Here are more details about how Mojang's most popular title was coded in Scratch.

Minecraft is not a novel idea for Scratch creators. Many people in the past have made unique iterations of the game. Some of them were 2D games where Steve either walked left or right, mined blocks, and was able to fight with other monsters. However, no creator was able to fully create a 3D Minecraft experience with all the bells and whistles until now.

A Scratch coder named scratchfan321 coded Minecraft solely in Scratch. On their main page, they suggested that the game should be played through the turbowarp website, since the Scratch website will make the game lag quite a lot.

When players start the game, they can create a new world and even choose between different world generation types like default, flat, or amplified. They can either go in the world in creative or survival mode, and change its difficulty.

It is essentially a web browser edition of Minecraft that will be even more pixelated and low-quality compared to the actual game. However, it will allow players to do almost everything they could in the vanilla version.

Players can start by mining wood, creating a crafting table, making initial tools, and progressing from there. Everything from entity, texture, and movement processing has been done extremely accurately, something which is extremely difficult in Scratch, making this a very unique project.

Players can even create a nether portal and go to the Nether to find lava lakes, Nether Fortresses, and much more. There is even an End realm, but the only entity missing from the game is the Ender Dragon. The developer even added the entire poem at the end of Minecraft.

Here are the steps to play the game in Scratch:

  1. Head to the turbowarp website.
  2. Hit the green flag button. Fullscreen the game by pressing the button in the top right corner.
  3. The game will ask whether you are using a pointer lock. If you are on a mouse and keyboard, simply type "n" and click on the tick mark.
  4. The game will start, and you can create a new world to enjoy and explore.

The reason this is so fascinating is that Scratch is one of the most basic visual programming languages, which is primarily used to teach kids and beginners how to code and create stories, animations, games, and more. Hence, it is a massive achievement to have entirely created Minecraft by using such a basic programming language.
