Sometimes it feels like Yordan Alvarez is from another planet, and it’s a shame that MLB fans have been robbed of his outstanding hitting ability due to injuries in recent years.
In 2026, that hasn’t been the case so far.
Alvarez’s bat has always been elite ever since he debuted in the Majors in 2019, and he’s somehow surpassed the lofty expectations set on him prior to the season. As things stand, his OPS+ sits at 193 according to Baseball Reference, meaning that he’s 93% better than the average hitter in MLB. A whopping 27% of his hits have gone out of the ballpark, and his OBP is .428. It’s not crazy to say that these are Barry Bonds numbers, and there’s no sign that he’ll be slowing down any time soon.
As a result, MLB fans have rewarded him with a commanding lead in the All-Star ballot race.

— Talkin' Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) June 22, 2026As of today, Yordan Alvarez’s 1,974,459 votes make him the second most voted player in the AL, putting him only behind Ernie Clement, who’s had a good season, but his two million votes might be the result of some ballot-stuffing from Blue Jays fans, which seems to be a prevalent theme this season.
Yordan’s lead in the DH category is definitely deserved, however, as he leads former Astro and current Blue Jays slugger George Springer by more than a million votes.
While Alvarez’s appearance at the All-Star Weekend is almost certainly a lock, he won’t be appearing in the Home Run Derby. With the season he’s having, I’m sure plenty of Astros fans will be fine with that decision.
