“Yellowstone” alum Mo Brings Plenty is convinced that his late nephew, “1923” star Cole Brings Plenty, was murdered.
“For his murder to go uninvestigated, and for it to be written off as ‘no foul play,’ because they didn’t want to invest anything into it? It’s heartbreaking,” Mo told the Hollywood Reporter on Sunday during his first interview about Cole’s death.
Mo continued, “Because we’re taxpaying people as well. So for them to not work for us, no different than how they work for anyone else is, is pretty sad.”
Cole went missing in 2024 after an alleged domestic violence incident. The news came out on April 2 of that year, but he had reportedly been missing since March 31, 2024.
In a police report of the alleged incident obtained by The Post, Cole was cited for two offenses: “aggravated domestic battery; choke in rude manner; family member/dating relationship” and “aggravated burglary; dwelling for felony, theft, domestic violence, or sexually motivated crime.”
The 27-year-old was found dead in a wooded area next to an unoccupied vehicle in Kansas on April 5, 2024.
A few days later, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office announced via Facebook that there was “no indication of foul play.”
An official cause of death has still not been released.
Mo, who told THR that Cole “was like a son” to him, explained that the family has “a lot of unanswered questions” about his death.
“Because I saw his body, I saw the evidence that is there that someone caught him,” the “Marshals” star shared. “So for them to say that there was nothing, I can’t believe that. I still can’t.”
“The departments didn’t put much effort into it,” Mo continued of the investigation. “In fact, they weren’t even really looking for him. They were hunting him. They weren’t searching for him.
“They were hunting him until the day when a good friend of mine and I rented a helicopter and told the Lawrence Police Department that we were going to go and search from the air, and that day, they were out in full force.”
Mo said that he’s focused on getting justice for Cole’s death.
“We’ve been in talks with several different people. We’re not letting it go,” he told the outlet. “It was a hard loss for us because this was an individual who was speaking our language, singing our songs and carrying on our traditions.
“He was the future for us. We want more and more of our young people to be inspired to pick up who we are from a cultural perspective,” Mo added.
Page Six has reached out to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office for comment.
Cole appeared in Episodes 7 and 8 of the first season of the “Yellowstone” spinoff, “1923,” starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.
The show paid tribute to Cole during the Season 2 premiere ten months after his death.
Mo, meanwhile, is reprising his “Yellowstone” role in the new spinoff “Marshals,” which follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) joining a specialized group of U.S. Marshals tasked with protecting Montana.
