Team India opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal chopped the ball back onto his stumps in the third session of Day 1 to hand South Africa their first breakthrough of their innings in the series opener. The southpaw perished in the seventh over after scoring 12 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, November 14.

Coming into bat after dismantling South Africa for just 159 across the first two sessions, Team India had to encounter a new ball charge by Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder. Both Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul adopted a cautious approach after recording just four runs off the first four overs.

The explosive left-handed batter broke free with a flurry of boundaries, and was looking in decent touch. During the seventh over, Jaiswal scored a sublime four off the fifth ball, but was dismissed off the very next delivery.

Left-arm pacer Marco Jansen dragged his length back, and on a much tighter line as well after conceding the boundary. However, the opener was tempted into playing the cut shot despite the lack of room. He slashed with hard hands, only to get a thick inside edge that rattled the stumps to end his stay at the crease.

Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Yashasvi Jaiswal has fond memories of the Eden Gardens as he had recorded the Indian Premier League's (IPL) fastest fifty at the iconic venue in 2023. He also holds an average of 51.33 and a strike rate of 181.18 at the stadium, as far as the IPL is concerned.

Washington Sundar set for his maiden innings at No.3 after Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal in IND vs SA 2025 1st Test

The opening batter's untimely dismissal left India at 18-1 in the final session. The Men in Blue have been used to prolific opening partnerships in recent times, but the early wicket brought Washington Sundar early at the crease in his very first outing at No.3.

At the time of writing, Team India are placed at 28-1 in the 11th over as Jansen bowls his sixth over on the trot in his first spell with the new ball.
