The Yankees kick off the 2026 MLB season in San Francisco against the Giants on Netflix.
Max Fried will be on the rubber for the Bombers for his first Opening Day start with the franchise after a stellar 2025 season, his first in the Bronx.
The southpaw will square off against Giants ace Logan Webb, who is making his fifth straight Opening Day start for San Francisco in one of the marquee pitching matchups of MLB’s opening slate.
Both teams had relatively quiet offseasons, with the Giants adding infielder Luis Arraez, outfielder Harrison Bader and starting pitchers Tyler Mahle and Adrian Houser as added depth to their rotation and lineup, respectively.
The Yankees’ biggest move was bringing back outfielder Cody Bellinger. Otherwise, their additions were mostly depth-focused, acquiring reliever Ryan Weathers and then re-signing infielder Amed Rosario and starter Paul Blackburn.
With two veteran aces on the mound and neither lineup undergoing a dramatic offseason overhaul, Thursday’s opener could be one of those games that stays in the hands of the starters for a while, especially for Webb, who comes into this game ready to go after playing in the World Baseball Classic for Team USA.
The right-hander made two starts for the Americans, tossing 8 ⅔ combined innings while allowing just one run.
In the quarterfinal win over Canada, Webb threw 4 ⅔ shutout innings spanning an efficient 71 pitches.
Webb has been the Giants’ steady workhorse for years, leading the majors in innings pitched by a healthy margin since the beginning of the 2021 season and nearly always working deep into games even without his best stuff.

Getty ImagesIn three career starts against the Yankees, including Opening Day in 2023, Webb hasn’t been his best.
He’s allowed at least three earned runs in each outing, but he’s still worked deep even as the Pinstripes figured out ways to score against him, going at least five innings in each start and averaging six innings overall.
Despite Webb’s consistent workload, the sportsbooks aren’t exactly expecting him to stick around long in this game, with DraftKings pegging his Over/Under for outs recorded at just 16.5 – or fewer than six innings pitched.
Webb went over this number in 25 of 34 starts last season and should be geared up after his WBC stint.

Although he only went five innings in the first game of the season a year ago, Webb tossed exactly six innings in each of the three prior Opening Days.
There should be a lot fewer limitations on Webb this time around, and the thick air on the San Francisco Bay should help him keep this Yankees lineup in check.
Look for the Giants ace to get off to a solid start to the season Wednesday at Oracle Park.
The play: Logan Webb Over 16.5 outs (-105, DraftKings Sportsbook)
