The New York Yankees might still believe in Jasson Dominguez (I don’t think so), but the fit isn’t as clean as it once was. Between an outfield with multiple players and the pressure to win now, Dominguez’s path to playing time in the Bronx just isn’t where it needs to be.
I’ve suggested that the Yankees should trade him a few times, but they’ll be getting less value for him than ever before.
For his sake, FanSided’s Mark Powell proposed a trade that would make sense for him. For the Yankees, they’d need to get some value back.
“But if there were a team that could use Dominguez's outfield talent, it'd be one that needs power added to their lineup and has room for improvement. Dominguez is destined to play for a contender, but just not the Yankees. Thus, why not the Cleveland Guardians?”
The Cleveland Guardians, while not contenders like the Yankees, often find themselves in the postseason. Cleveland has built a competitive roster, but adding a young stud to the lineup has been a consistent need, though it has its own prospects to call up.
The Yankees' side of the story gets a bit more complicated here due to giving up on Dominguez right now. Brian Cashman trading Dominguez when he’s this young, and him possibly being as good as some expected, would be a disaster.
It’s tough to find the perfect answer, but if the return is decent, it’s worth trying.
