Yankees trade idea lands Guardians' two-time all-star outfielder

The New York Yankees may have some holes to fill in their outfield this offseason if the team loses Cody Bellinger or Trent Grisham via free agency this winter. If New York loses one of those stars, they may have to look to the alternative market to try to fill the void.

Cody Bellinger hit 29 home runs this season, and Grisham hit 34. They both might be too expensive for the Yankees to retain, but luckily, there is another star outfielder who may be available on the trade block.

Yankees' linked to trade for Steven Kwan

It was recently announced by manager Aaron Boone that Jasson Dominguez will likely get full-time reps in the Yankees' outfield in 2026. However, New York still may have to add a name or two to round out that outfield group.

Recently, the Yankees have been urged to trade for Guardians' outfielder Steven Kwan by Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller:

"New York Yankees: A Trade for an Outfielder
Prime Target: Cleveland's Steven Kwan (arbitration-eligible through 2027)"

Kwan isn't going to hit for nearly as much power as Bellinger or Grisham, but he is a three-time Gold Glove winner (likely going to be a four-time after the awards are announced this offseason), and despite hitting for a lack of power, Kwan is still close to an average hitter.

In 156 games this season, Kwan hit .272 with 11 home runs, and walked (55) almost as much as he struck out (60). He was also a main catalyst in the Cleveland Guardians' impressive September run to the MLB playoffs.

Hypothetically, if Aaron Judge moves to the full-time DH role, and New York retains Bellinger but loses Grisham, there would still be one outfield spot for the Yankees to fill, and that could be by way of a trade for the two-time All-Star Steven Kwan.
