Yankees tabbed as 'front runner' for Dodgers pitcher in trade

The New York Yankees' starting rotation has been hit hard by injuries this season. Gerrit Cole has been out all season, Luis Gil is yet to pitch and Clarke Schmidt is done for the year.

The Yankees rotation currently features Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, Will Warren, Cam Schlittler and Marcus Stroman. Getting Gil back will help the group. Getting Ryan Yarbrough back in the mix will also help, but the Yankees may want some more depth or simply a better No. 5 starter. At the very least, they may want a better option while Gil and Yarbrough work their way back.

The Yankees may be looking specifically at rental arms with some experience. According to a report from Pat Ragazzo, the Yankees could be the favorites to land Dustin May from the Dodgers.

"Sources: Yankees have emerged as the early front runner for Dodgers RHP Dustin May," Ragazzi wrote on X.

May is going to be a free agent after the season, and the Dodgers may not need him anymore. Shohei Ohtani is continuing his build-up, Tyler Glasnow is back and Blake Snell should be back soon. May will soon not have a spot in the rotation.

He has a 4.85 ERA this season. He has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but he has made a career-high 18 starts this year. He could be a solid starter until the Yankees get Gil and Yarbrough back. After that, he could be in the conversation for the No. 5 spot, or he could come out of the bullpen.
