Undrafted free agency after the MLB Draft isn't followed as closely as it is in the NFL or NBA, but it can still matter.
And it's in that realm that the New York Yankees may have landed a steal.
The Yankees signed Arkansas outfielder Logan Maxwell as an UDFA after the draft ended Monday.
Maxwell batted .356 in 2024 for the Razorbacks, with a .605 slugging percentage and 13 homers. His OPS was 1.059, and he walked nearly as much as he struck out.
Before Arkansas, Maxwell had played three years at TCU. He didn't show off nearly the same power there, so he might be a late bloomer.

Regardless, it's hard to pass up a guy who hit .356 as part of the SEC, with power.
Maxwell, on paper, looks like a very draftable player. It'll be interesting to see if he has flaws that show up in professional baseball, or if this winds up looking like a great under-the-radar move by the Yankees.
