The New York Yankees made a notable roster move before their series opener against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.
According to the MiLB transaction log, the Yankees have released outfielder/first baseman Seth Brown.
Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports that Brown had an opt-out in his contract and decided to search for a better path to playing time in the Majors.
Brown, 33, had been playing with New York's Triple-A affiliate at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He hit .235 with nine home runs and a .753 OPS in 53 games.
The left-handed hitter spent the first seven seasons of his Major League career with the Athletics. In 2022, Brown set career highs in homers (25), RBIs (73), and OPS (.749).
"Speculatively speaking, both the Padres and Phillies have struggled against right-handed pitching this season, and both have recently incurred some notable injuries in the outfield mix," Adams wrote.

Brown could provide either of those two National League clubs with a power stroke from the left-handed side of the batter's box.
Jasson Dominguez, Spencer Jones, and Max Schuemann were all ahead of Brown on the Yankees' outfield depth chart.
