Yankees' projected lineup with Luis Garcia Jr. after Nationals trade might have a problem

The New York Yankees have one of MLB's best rotations, and while they need some help in the bullpen, their real area of need is their offense. With Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and others all missing time right now, the Yankees really could use some more firepower.

They've reportedly done just that, as according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Yankees are trading for Washington Nationals first baseman Luis Garcia Jr.

Adding Garcia is a huge move for the Yankees, as the 23-home-run hitter is a huge pickup for the struggling offense. So, with Garcia coming to New York, how does their lineup look with him in it? Well, it's an intriguing group, but there might be an issue or two.

There are two potential lineup projections worth analyzing for the Yankees in the wake of this trade. One with a fully healthy roster, and one with their current set-up.

This projected lineup for the Yankees is a lot better with Garcia in it, but it's still clearly got a few holes at shortstop, third base, and especially at catcher.

But, adding Garcia and his .23 homers into the cleanup spot in the current lineup would be huge. But it's also worth looking at what the fully healthy lineup could be before getting into the one issue with a Garcia trade.

This would make for a very exciting lineup for the Yankees. The top five of this projected batting order would be a World Series-caliber group. Garcia is a great five-hole hitter and would give this lineup more depth.

But, there is one issue for the Yankees: they might have too many options after this Garcia trade. Giancarlo Stanton and Paul Goldschmidt are too good to keep out of the lineup every day.

They're both right-handed hitters, but both should get into the lineup against left-handed pitching. If they do take over at DH and/or first base, that leaves Rice and Garcia as bench options. That's just not ideal at all.

Now, the Yankees could try to move Garcia to second base and move Chisholm around, but that's a lot of position changes and is likely too risky.

Most likely, the Yankees would platoon Garcia and Goldschmidt at first base with Rice as the DH against left-handed pitching. That is, until Stanton comes back.

While adding Garcia is a good move for the Yankees' struggling offense, it does come with a problem regarding the fit with the club.

Still, the projected lineup with Garcia in it is a very exciting one for the Yankees. Even though there might be a problem down the line, in the short-term, this addition should be a great one for the Yankees.
