Yankees predicted to be frontrunners to make blockbuster trade for $53 million All-Star ace to create 1-2 punch with Max Fried

The New York Yankees have been sleeping this offseason, while many teams, especially in their division, have been making major moves or at least in serious talks. If they want to compete, they need to start moving.

One of the first things they need to address is their rotation. With Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon not going to be ready for Opening Day, they need to get a front-end starter to support Max Fried. Luckily, according to Fansided’s Mark Powell, the Yanks could be a frontrunner to trade for Cincinnati Reds All-Star Hunter Greene.

“On the other hand, the Reds are reportedly listening to offers on their best starting pitcher, Hunter Greene. The 25-year-old Greene had a sub-3 ERA in 19 starts, the second straight season he's achieved such a mark. Greene signed a six-year extension in 2023, and thus is under contract through the 2029 season, which includes a club option. While Freddy Peralta and Tarik Skubal are the best starting pitchers available on the market, Greene could be a more intriguing fit for contenders in search of team-friendly contractual control. Enter the New York Yankees,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Greene posted a 7-4 record, an ERA of 2.76, 132 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.938 over 107 innings pitched. He’s a stud, but he also runs the risk of being injury-prone and could end up with the people he is supposed to replace.

However, he could bounce back. And if he could post the same numbers but go 80+ more innings, then he would be well worth it. Especially with his team-friendly contract.

If the Yankees are smart, they’ll start negotiations. Greene will be a hot commodity, so it’s better to get in early and be a frontrunner.
