Two Anthony Volpe video highlights are going viral, neither of them good.
One shows the New York Yankees shortstop flubbing a routine ground ball right to him. The other is of Volpe appearing to swing and miss at a pitch by a foot (caveat: hitting is hard).
There seems to be genuine concern among at least some Yankees fans that the 24-year old Volpe isn't actually the long-term answer at shortstop.
He is a confusing case, to be sure.
Volpe won a Gold Glove, but he ranks just 24th this season in Outs Above Average among shortstops.
He occasionally runs into a homer (eight this season so far), but his career OPS is below .700.

Shortstop isn't an easy spot to replace, especially in the Bronx where Derek Jeter's shadow looms large. So the Yankees won't just be running Volpe out of town.
But it appears, at least if the pulse of social media is the correct barometer, that Volpe's honeymoon period in the Bronx has worn off.
Now, he's facing the same high pressure and expectations as the rest of the Yankees.
And if Volpe continues to slip up, there'll be plenty of loud voices asking for the Yanks to find their next shortstop and move on from this one.
