The New York Yankees and New York Mets could both use a right-handed hitting first baseman who is both a former All Star and former Gold Glove winner.
Enter Ty France, who remains a free agent.
MassLive's Chris Cotillo reported Sunday night that both the Yankees and Mets are pursuing France's signature.
France split the 2025 season between the Twins and Blue Jays, batting .257 with a .681 OPS.
In his career, he has a .262 average and a .735 OPS, with improved stats when he faces left-handed pitching.

He won his Gold Glove in 2025 for his work at first base.
He was a 2022 All Star with the Mariners in a season he ended with 27 doubles, 20 homers and 83 RBI.
France used to play all around the infield, but now he mostly uses that fielding talent to work for him at first base.

The Yankees could use France as a platoon partner at first base with Ben Rice, and they could use his right-handed bat in general in a lineup that is lefty-heavy.
The Mets have Jorge Polanco set to play first base despite almost never having played that position, and it'd help them to have France as insurance in case that experiment doesn't work as well as hoped.
It's certainly a cool little Subway Series battle in the offseason with spring training approaching and both New York clubs trying to fill a final need with the same guy.
