A beloved and energetic utilityman is leaving the New York Yankees organization.
According to an announcement from the AL East club, the Cincinnati Reds claimed Oswaldo Cabrera off waivers on Friday.
The Yankees designated Cabrera, a 27-year-old with five years of Major League experience, for assignment on Wednesday following the return of right-hander Clarke Schmidt.
This will be Cabrera's first stint with an MLB organization that's not the Yankees. He signed with the Yankees as an international free agent from Venezuela in 2015.
In 304 games from 2022-26, the switch-hitter produced a .232/.292/.343 slash line with 20 home runs and a .635 OPS.
Cabrera provides value as a versatile defender who has made at least one appearance at every position on the field besides catcher.

Last May, Cabrera suffered a season-ending ankle fracture while sliding into home plate at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
He made it back to play three games with the Yankees in 2026 but has otherwise spent the rest of the season at Triple-A.
Described as a "gem of a human being" by YES Network's Jack Curry, Cabrera was well known for his kindness and positive energy in New York's clubhouse and with fans.
