Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. gets $200 million contract update amid struggles

Based on his recent play, Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s free agent value could have decreased ever so slightly.

However, the New York Yankees second baseman will still be one of the top players available on the market. Last season, Chisholm became the third player in franchise history to record a 30/30 season, joining Alfonso Soriano and Bobby Bonds.

It's his speed and power that will make him an attractive target for many clubs. Before the season, Chisholm set high standards for himself, saying he wanted to become the second player in Major League history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a season.

"The two-time All-Star has age on his side, as he will be 28 years old for the entirety of the 2026 season, and that should help him secure a massive payday as the most impactful bat on the market," Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter wrote Wednesday.

In 42 trips to the plate, Chisholm has just a .200/.238/.275 slash line with 13 strikeouts compared to just one walk. He's yet to connect for a home run. Still, there's plenty of time for him to turn things around.

"Marcus Semien was two years older when he signed his seven-year, $175 million contract, and he was part of a loaded free-agent class, so it's not out of the question to think a $200 million deal could be on the horizon if Chisholm puts up similar numbers," Reuter added.

Even if Chisholm manages to secure a $200 million contract, the bigger question will be whether the Yankees feel comfortable making that deal. Extension talks between them and the Silver Slugger have been awfully quiet.
