The New York Yankees have a number of their key players under long-term contracts.
On the opposite side of the coin, though, is Jazz Chisholm Jr. The 2026 MLB season is the last year of his contract.
The Yanks could extend him soon. They could try to re-sign him at the end of the season. They could consider trading him before the deadline. Or they could let him leave in free agency after this campaign.
All the options are on the table.

The Yankees also have a mixed history here, so there isn't a simple precedent to draw upon.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand tried to break it down in a new article on Thursday.
"Historically, the Yankees have not been big on extensions, letting players get to free agency and re-signing them at that time if they want to bring them back," Feinsand writes. "But there have been exceptions -- Aaron Hicks, Luis Severino and Brett Gardner all signed extensions during their tenure with the Yankees -- so the idea of the Yankees trying to extend Chisholm isn’t a stretch. A lot of it could depend on how the team views Anthony Volpe going forward, as top shortstop prospect George Lombard Jr. is getting closer to the Majors, which could prompt a shift to second base for Volpe if the team still believes in him."

Some Yankees fans are pretty confused about the idea of not extending Chisholm.
Since the Yanks acquired Chisholm in a trade from the Miami Marlins before the 2024 trade deadline, he has been a power-speed monster in the Bronx.
He's had a bit of injury trouble, and he's a bit streaky, but at his best, Chisholm is a superstar.
This could come down to how much money Chisholm wants on a deal. But Yankees fans will certainly want him to stick around, if there's a fair contract to be agreed upon.
