Yankees' Jazz Chisholm injures opponent by hitting them in the head with his bat

Ouch.

Yankees star Jazz Chisholm didn't mean to do this, of course. But earlier this week, while batting left-handed, Chisholm's backswing went a bit too far back.

It found the head of Guardians catcher Austin Hedges, immediately knocking Hedges down.

On Friday, Hedges went on the Injured List with his fifth recognized concussion.

The Guardians called up catcher Dom Nunez to replace Hedges on the active roster.

The injury occurred Wednesday, and Hedges actually stayed in the game at the time.

Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt told reporters that Hedges began experiencing "low-level concussion symptoms" on Thursday.

“There's always a level of concern with any concussion, especially when it's as many as Hedgey has experienced,” Vogt said. “So that's why we're being super cautious with this. This is bigger than baseball. This is bigger than winning a game. We have to do what's right for Austin, and we have to do what's right for him as a human -- and that's to be super cautious. You don't want to mess around with anything revolving around concussions, especially with his history.”

Hedges is a leader in the clubhouse for Cleveland and still a strong defensive catcher who often takes over late in games with leads to help finish the job.

But right now, his health is the most important thing.
