Yankees have 4 Mets trade options to solve third base problem if Eugenio Suarez pursuit fails

8 hours ago 1

The New York Yankees need a third baseman. Everyone knows that.

The Yankees want Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Everyone knows that, too.

But what if they can't land Suarez, the top name on the entire trade market?

Turns out, they could look very close to home.

ESPN's Jeff Passan wrote in a new breakdown on Wednesday that the Mets have four players who could all solve the Yankees' third base woes.

That quartet:

  • Brett Baty
  • Mark Vientos
  • Ronny Mauricio
  • Luisangel Acuna

Baty and Vientos are both traditional third basemen. Mauricio and Acuna (Ronald's younger brother) are more of utility men that can play third.

Any of them would be upgrades for the Yankees over Oswald Peraza or Jorbit Vivas.

Passan lists a bunch of other options, too: Ryan McMahon, Willi Castro, Ke'Bryan Hayes, Yoan Moncada, Jonathan India, Luis Urias.

But it'd be fascinating to see the Yankees turn to the Mets for this key assist.
