Yankees get excellent Mason Miller trade news, but only under one condition

The New York Yankees have to hope that some teams around Major League Baseball get desperate around the trade deadline. For the Yankees to meet the deadline they want, they'll need a lot of help.

Right now, New York is still in a rather decent spot at 54-42 after the break and just three games out in the American League East. However, and I think all Yankees fans would say the same, this team needs a lot of help.

There's absolutely no debate that the Yankees are a bit far away from being the top team in Major League Baseball, and that's a problem.

However, that could change with the right moves. If the Yankees go out and make the right deals at the deadline, perhaps trading for someone like Mason Miller of the San Diego Padres, there's reason to believe they can be just as good as anyone.

Regarding whether Miller could be traded, it doesn't sound like anything is ruled out just yet, as A.J. Preller looks to get some of his prospects back after a few blockbuster deals that haven't gone as planned in recent years.

“The Padres just acquired Miller last summer, giving up top prospect Leo De Vries to do so, so they’ll likely be hesitant to deal him unless they get a haul in return. At the same time, the 27-year-old flamethrower is by far the most valuable trade chip for a team that has so many underperforming stars on big contracts, and general manager A.J. Preller has earned a reputation as one of MLB’s boldest executives, which means nothing can be ruled out as far as Miller goes,” MLB.com wrote.

My only concern about making a trade for Miller with the Padres is that San Diego is looking for more than he's worth.

Miller is undoubtedly one of the top relievers in Major League Baseball, if not the best by a somewhat wide margin. However, I also don't think the move they made for Leo De Vries with the Athletics last season made much sense.

I don't want the Yankees to make a blockbuster deal like that just for the sake of doing it, so I'm interested to see how that looks.
