The New York Yankees are one of the top teams in all of Major League Baseball this season, and with their spot atop the AL East only challenged by the Tampa Bay Rays, they might not have much pressure to spend big at the trade deadline.
But that doesn't mean that Brian Cashman and company won't consider a big move this summer. If the right deal comes to fruition, the Yankees are seemingly always a team ready to swing big.
What about Tarik Skubal, the back-to-back Cy Young-winning Detroit Tigers ace who might be traded? Well, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, there are two reasons why the Yankees aren't likely to be involved in the trade market this summer.
2 reasons why Yankees might not trade for Tarik Skubal
"The rotation has been very good and will get Max Fried back at some point, so I don't think Cashman will get involved with any starting pitching sweepstakes such as Tarik Skubal," Feinsand writes.
It would not be a surprise if the Yankees continued to be linked to Skubal, as the Yankees typically are a club mentioned as a landing spot for the best players in a trade.
But Feinsand brings up two good points for why a trade might not happen. The first is simple: the starting rotation, as it is now, doesn't need Skubal as some other teams might.
The 48-31 Yankees are sending out Cam Schlittler, Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Ryan Weathers, and Will Warren right now in the rotation.

That's a good-enough group that Skubal wouldn't be a top priority for this team. But that group of starters doesn't even include Fried, who is currently on the injured list.
Once the former Atlanta Braves starter is back in the fold, the Yankees will have even less of a reason to spend the fortune it would take to acquire Skubal from the Tigers.
There isn't any starting pitcher the Yankees need to spend a lot on this summer, even if adding someone good like Skubal would make the Yankees more of a contender than before.
Instead, they should be spending more on the bullpen, catcher, and infield trade markets. Between the already strong rotation and Fried's eventual return, the Yankees have two simple reasons why a Skubal trade wouldn't make sense for this team.
