Some teams around Major League Baseball are hoping that others continue to fail, including the Detroit Tigers. For the Tigers to get the return that they need in Major League Baseball, they need the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and some other big-market teams to really continue playing at the level they have.
While it still remains uncertain if the Tigers are going to move on from left-hander Tarik Skubal, it sounds like the market is starting to take shape. According to the latest reports, the Yankees, Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays are the three teams to watch for his services.
“Now that it’s becoming inevitable that the free-falling Detroit Tigers may have no choice but to trade two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal at the deadline, rival executives believe the bidding will come down to four finalists that not only can afford the remainder of his $32 million contract, but will also be willing to give up prized prospects:
“The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays,” Bob Nightengale of USA Today wrote.
If this is how things play out, and the Tigers are indeed content with moving on from him, this is the absolute best-case scenario.
The Dodgers, Yankees, and Blue Jays not only have decent farm systems but are also typically willing to move whoever it takes to ensure they have a chance to win. That's the absolute perfect outcome here for a Tigers team that probably needs to move on from the best starter in the game right now, unless he's willing to take an extension throughout the year.
