The New York Yankees starting rotation was decimated in spring training thanks to injuries plaguing pitchers Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil. While Gil is making progress, Cole is out for the year due to Tommy John surgery.
This is an area the Yankees could stand to improve at the trade deadline. They need somebody who can fill a hole in their rotation and give them some reliable veteran innings.
The deadline is still weeks away, but it's never too early to speculate.
Colin Keane of Sports Illustrated proposed the idea of New York poaching Walker Buehler from the rival Boston Red Sox.
"With reports indicating that the Red Sox might trade Buehler before the deadline, here's an idea: Why not send the struggling two-time All-Star to a bitter rival?" Keane wrote.

Buehler is having another down year with the Red Sox. He's 5-5 with a 5.95 ERA in 12 starts with Boston this year, so his value is likely a bit lower.
But the Yankees could use another starter to provide some veteran innings, and Buehler, with his track record, can do just that.
He closed the Yankees out last October to clinch the World Series, winning his second ring in the process. The 30-year-old is also a two-time All-Star.
Granted, trades from within the same division, especially between two archrivals, is almost unheard of, but it's never impossible. If the Red Sox sell, they could find some takers for Buehler.
It will certainly be interesting to see if the Yankees decide to make a move to acquire the veteran right-hander.
